A Short Stockholm Archipelago Tour

Utö is situated farthest out in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago and is renowned for its many hours of sunshine. Utö was once an active mining community. Today, the history and architecture live on, but the island also offers plenty of up-to-the-minute activities.

Nyköpingsgruva is a historic iron mine at Utö Island and part of Utö Mines. Utö mines were opened in the 12th century and closed down in 1878.

Day 1.
Transfer by private car from Stockholm to Aarsta Brygga and from there ferry to Utö. It takes about 2 hours. After checking in you leave the luggage at the hotel and take the bike to explore the surrounding for an hour before it is time for a nice archipelago lunch at Utö Värdshus. After that, you will have a guided round tour at the museum close to the harbor. Then it is time to explore the Swedish archipelago, and you get to paddle in a kayak around the small islands and bays around Utö. Just before the sunset, a nice dinner will be served at a restaurant in the village. Overnight at hotel Utö Värdshus/Inn.

‘Utö Värdshus Inn’ is located minutes from the village and harbor perched high on a hill with wonderful views over the islands in the southern archipelago. Rooms are either located in nearby historical buildings or cozy wooden cabins. A well-respected restaurant can be found at the Inn – one of the archipelago’s best!

Day 2.
Relax and breathe in the fresh sea air this morning before the breakfast as you take a morning walk on the Northern side of Utö. A few km walks will wake you up and give you appetite before you put your teeth in a fresh piece of bread baked this morning when you still were lying on the bed. Today you will get a packed lunch with you on your moped, and you can take a tour, for example, Old Arns MC-museum. You have a full day to explore the buzzing island of Utö. On your moped, you can travel the length of the island, or crossover by bridge to the nearby smaller islands of Aloe and Naattaroe which both have beautiful white sandy beaches to relax on and enjoy. Tour around and through open woodlands, take swimming breaks jumping off the smooth rocks, and visit historical landmarks, such as the wooden church dating back to 1885.

Late afternoon you get to enjoy a delicious meal at a respected archipelago restaurant serving quality locally produced food, before taking the evening boat to Årsta Brygga and from there a private transport will take you back to Stockholm.
